Our Worship |
|
 |
Although we use contemporary language, many elements of our worship date back to the first recorded worship practices of early Christians. Each week, we celebrate a Eucharist. Eucharist is a Greek word meaning, "thanksgiving." Since we have no power to save ourselves, Jesus came and offered himself as a living sacrifice for our sins. There is nothing we can do to repay Him for His gift of eternal life, so we offer a worship service of grateful thanksgiving. We offer Him all that we are and He feeds us with His Word and Holy Sacraments.
Our service includes readings from Holy Scripture, a sermon explaining the Scriptures and relating them to our lives; prayers and an opportunity to confess our sins and receive forgiveness. We also affirm our faith in the ancient words of the Nicene Creed and greet one another in the name of the Lord and recognize one another as "new creation" as we exchange "the Peace."
The pinacle of our worship is the sharing of bread and wine - for us, the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our communion is open to all baptized Christians.
Throughout our service we sing. Our music includes contemporary Christian songs, powerful Christian hymns, and ancient liturgical chants. The combination of our music and orthodox Christian liturgies provide an opportunity to deeply dwell, be fed and strengthened in the presence of our Holy God. |
